Afc Editorial Replies-Why Sony Ended Up Kicking Microsoft’s Can At E3!!!!

June 13, 2013

PS4 Godzilla

Hello and greetings fellow otaku,

Well it looks like the console wars are about to heat up again. Microsoft and Sony will be going head to head with there new consoles which will be released on November 30th (Xbox 1) and December 31st (PS4) respectively.

So what is the big deal with the two, well the main thing is how you can share games between the two systems. On one end, Sony and the PS4 will allow you to share games with your friends with the physical disc and you can even play used games from your PS3, PS Vita and PlayStation Network without any disruptions what so ever. Microsoft on the other hand has you locked with a DRM system in which you buy the game and have it digitally stored on the hard drive so if you want to play games with your friends, you will need to take the Xbox 1 with you and have the Kinect connected in order to play. A major inconvenience in my opinion, I want to play my games anywhere I want without being bogged down carrying my system.

Thus what is the moral of the story, SONY wins and Microsoft bites the dust. I feel that Sony is doing the right thing by allowing you to play all your games from all of your PlayStation devices without any hassle, and Microsoft, well I just don’t know what to say.

I won’t dive into this any further since all the major news outlets have pretty much covered the basics, but come this holiday season, I predict that Sony will be the big winner with the PS4. HANDS DOWN. So until next time, remember that there is a ton of great anime and manga  out there. All you have to do is find it. Ltrs.

Afc Editorial Reply’s-The Internet Sales Tax: The End Of The Retail Anime Industry As We Know It?

May 1, 2013

Hello and greetings fellow otaku,

Well I don’t know if you have been following this at all or not, but recently Congress is currently in the process of passing new legislation in which you buy anything online whether thru Amazon, EBay or any online anime retailer you will be subject to paying your local states sales tax along with any shipping and handling to have it shipped to your home. This new piece of legislation going thru congress is enviably called “The Internet Fairness Act”.

So what is this all about you ask? Well according to the legislation supported by Senators Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) states that internet online retailers would be required to collect sales tax on each and every purchase you make online from 9,600 state tax agency’s including local municipalities. That means that brand new box set or figurine might cost you a pretty penny more if this legislation were to pass.

Now technically, we are supposedly to fill out an use tax form each year to claim sales tax that we owe on good purchased online. Now I don’t know about you, but this is just utter garbage!!!!! This legislation that if it were to pass will affect not only how we purchase our anime and it will hurt retailers with a major headache of keeping track of all the different tax rates, it will just be a major mess overall.

Now I don’t know about you but this legislation is just another preverbal nail in the coffin for the industry as we know it. So I encourage you folks to write to your congressmen and senators and tell then you do not want this legislation to pass. Do it not to only save the retail anime industry, but to save our hard earned money and the hard working anime retailers who support our hobby as a whole.

For more information about the “Internet Fairness Act” and how to contact your members of congress, click on the links below. Also please share your thoughts in the comments section!!!!

Afc Editorial Replies: Xbox 720-Upgrade or Save Your Money?

April 14, 2013

Hello and greetings fellow otaku,

Well it has been eight years since the Xbox 360 was released here in the U.S. Now the next generation of the Xbox Gaming Console will be coming later on this year. So the question is, should you trade in your old 360 for the 720 or just save your money and get a PS4? Well here is the skinny of what is to come (supposedly) with the new Xbox.

1) Graphics– The new Xbox is going to have less graphics power than the PS4 in which might not be a good thing for hard core gamers. The CPU will have a 1.6 Ghz processing speed in which will be the same as the PS4 but the 8gb’s of memory may be a tough sell for hard core gamers.

2) Blu-Ray: There are also rumors that the new Xbox will contain a Blu-Ray drive but it may not include one at all. Now keep in mind that when the 360 was released back in 2005, they adopted the HD-DVD standard and you all how how well that turned out. So including a Blu-Ray drive might be a smart move for Microsoft to do to compete with Sony which had Blu-Ray in the PS3 from the get go.

And now the downer that might just turn people away,

3) No Support For Used Games: Now this rumor has been going on since the rumors of the 720 have been going around. For those of you who don’t know, if you decide to go sell your used games at your local GameStop for new games, you will not be able to play them with the new system. I feel that this is going to be the hardest sell for those who want to upgrade but they don’t want to shell out 50 to 60 bucks for new games in which might just make the loyal Xbox faithful switch over to the PS4 and hurt the used game industry as a whole.

Now keep in mind that I only covered a few pieces of information about the new Xbox, but these are mostly rumors so these things may or may not appear in the final product when it is released for the 2013 holiday shopping season. So stay with AFC for more info on the Xbox 720 as it develops. So until next time, remember that there is a ton of great anime and manga out there. All you have to do is find it. Ltrs.

AFC Editorial Replies-The Death Of G4 (AKA:ZDTV, TechTv) 1998-2012!!!!

October 27, 2012

G4   techtvMenagerie

Hello and greetings fellow otaku,

Well I am sad to report that at the end of this year G4, the network for games, technology and more will be no more. Effective January 2013, Comcast, the parent company of NBC and G4 will be replacing the network with a network dedicated to the male viewer.

So as this era of this popular channel comes to an end, let’s take a trip back in time to learn how this popular channel became to be. So back on May 11th 1998 as ZDTV, the first twenty-four hour network devoted to technology for tech fans around the world.

Some of ZDTV popular shows include Gamespot TV (Now known as X-Play), Fresh Gear: a show devoted to reviews of the latest gadgets on the market today and the two most popular shows Call For Help and The Screen Savers staring two of the greatest tech journalists in the history of television and podcasting and Leo Laporte and Sara Lane (See Pictures Below).

Leo laporte and Sara Lane ( Personalities)

In my opinion, I loved Call For Help and The Screen Savers, Leo’s charm on Call For Help when he talks to the callers was witty, entertaining and educational at the same time. And when you add Sara to the mix on The Screen Savers, you have a dynamite hosting team that totally puts the tech world on it’s head. Keep in mind that you can see them on weekly podcasts on Leo’s Twit Network everyday with such popular podcasts Tech News Today, The Social Hour, The Tech Guy, Know How and one of my personal favorites iPad Today just to name a few.

You can check out show schedule by clicking on the link below. Did I also mention that you can watch these show’s live as well. You can see all the behind the scenes banter between them and the producers. It’s a lot of fun and definitely worth checking out!!!!

Twit Network

But getting back to G4, in 2002 G4 was introduced in which provided gamers with a twenty four hour resource for the latest gaming news, reviews and much more. A couple of the popular shows on the network were Filter, X-Play, Cinematech, Arena and one of the very first television game shows devoted to the world of video games Starcade. You can watch a full episode here,

Then in 2004 G4 and TechTv joined forces to combine programming to appeal with gamers and tech junkies alike with such programs as Anime Underground and Gamespot Tv’s revival X-Play. However this woulden’t last with TechTv folding in 2005 in which became just G4.

And thus this brought us another great show known as Attack Of The Show which replaced The Screen Savers. Attack gave us some great memories such as the French Pie Jump. Here is the entire clip,

However within the past few months we have seen some major changes including
such popular hosts as Kevin Perera and Adam Sessler leaving X-Play and Attack Of
The Show. Most recently Kevin can be seen hosing a new syndicated game show
produced by his own production company called Let’s Ask America while Adam has
faded out of the spotlight. The following is a clip from Kevin’s new show,

Overall it is a shame that the network is ending after providing many years of programming and I wish all the staff members at G4 all the best in the future. So what are your thoughts, please leave a comment below and I might just mention it on a special YouTube commentary that I will be working on later this week.

So until next time, remember that there is a ton of great anime and manga out there. All you have to do is find it. Ltrs.

AFC Editorial Reply-My Thoughts on The Dark Knight Rises Shootings in Colorado!!!!

July 20, 2012

Hello and greeting’s fellow otaku,

Well today isn’t one of the best days in recent history, but it will absolutely leave an impact for those who were affected by this for many years to come. Today at 12:30am Mountain time (Around 2:30am Eastern time) a gunman identified as James Holmes committed a horrendous act of violence by shooting innocent movie goers who were attending the premiere of “Batman: The Dark Knight Rises” in an Aurora Colorado theatre. Current reports state that there were twelve victims who died during the shooting while 59 others were injured including a four month old baby girl who is recovering at of this post.

Currently Warner Brothers Pictures has no plans to cancel or halt screenings of the film in the states but they have delayed the premiere tonight in Paris France because of this tragedy. Holmes who dyed his hair red to look like the Joker according to police was a graduate student at The University of Colorado studying in neurosciences but was getting ready to withdraw from the program at the time the shooting occurred.

Overall, I am sadden by this tragedy, a grad student who had everything going for him decided to throw it all away to commit a terrible act of violence and risks spending the rest of his life in prison or being sentenced to death just to get his feelings out. That is just wrong!!!! People do not realize that there is help out there if they are running into difficult situations. Most college campuses offer mental health programs to students who are going through tough times, but many students do not realize that there is help available until it’s too late.

Overall this day will live with us for the rest of our lives, and we here at AFC send out our thoughts and prayers to the friends and families of the victim’s of this act of violence. Hopefully justice will be served and Batman’s legacy will be avenged!!!! Ltrs.

Afc Editorial Replies-My Thoughts On Navarre’s Plans For Funimation!!!!!

May 30, 2010

Hello and greetings fellow otaku,

Now as most of you loyal readers know, yesterday I did a rant about Funimation’s parent company Navarre Corporations plans to sell the popular anime distribution company. However some of you out there thought I took this topic a little too far. As a mater of fact, one commenter shared there thoughts about the subject in great detail. Now I will not mention the person’s name who wrote the comment, but I will show you folks what they said.

The commenter goes on to state,

I don’t know about you guys, but honestly FUNIMATION can go to hell and they deserve it for their lousy dubs and subs and greedy practices. Maybe Andrew is a vivid fan of dubs or something that see that if Funimation was go off business was going to destroy their world of Anime. I am sure if FUNIMATION goes there are many companies that can be doing a much better job with Anime and giving it the respect it deserves with quality dubs and subs if necessary”.

Now when I first saw this comment in my inbox this morning, I was in complete shock. But I do agree with the commenter that Funimation sometimes makes mistakes when producing dubs of popular series. But let me say this: if they do a terrible job with sub’s and dub’s of series, how would they be able to get licensing agreements for films and series such as Evangelion 1.0, xxxHolic, Case Closed, Suzuka, Dragon Ball Z and other popular titles just to name a few. If that was the case, Funimation would have went bankrupt years ago!!!!!

So in closing for all of you who feel that Funimation is a greedy and worthless company, I just have one thing to say to you.

“If you don’t like Funimation’s offerings, then you don’t have to buy there products. Simple as that!!!!!”. Ltrs.
