Anime Doubleshots- Genshiken

Hello and greetings fellow Otaku,

It is time to do an anime review but with a little bit of a twist. I would like to call this segment anime doubleshots. So your wondering what an anime doubleshots is don’t ya. Well, an anime doubleshots is an anime and manga review all in one. It’s the best of both worlds and it will not leave you strapped for cash or gain a caffeine rush like a cup of starbucks coffee. But enough of the sillyness, lets get down to business shall we. For my first ever anime doubleshots we are going to cover the anime and manga series known as Genshiken.

Genshiken is a series that focuses on Otaku culture including anime, manga and video games. The main protagonist of the series is Kanji Sasahara, a first year student at Shiiou university. When the series first starts off, we see Kanji as a shy individual who is an Otaku but is not comfortable showing off his Otaku nature. But he finally comes out with it when club day at the university comes around in which he joins the club known as the society for the study of modern visual culture. There his true Otaku nature comes into the play. Now for those of you who haven’t seen the series, I will not spoil it for you.

As for the rest of the characters we have Makoto Kousaka, he is an Otaku but he does not express his true nature in the public eye but his main intrests are video games such as fighters and porn games. Harunobu Madarame, a hard-core otaku who spends all his money on anime and manga and not on general living expenses. Souichiro Tanaka a cosplay designer. Misunori Kugyama a manga artist. And Kanako Ono a cosplayer. Another main character is Saki Kasukabe, kousaka’s girlfriend. Saki is not into anime and manga as kousaka is but she is deeply in love with him. Their are two other characters that come into play later in the series. They are Chika Oguie and Manabu Kuchiki, Kuchiki is introduced in episode 7 of the original series while Ogiue was introduce in the manga first and in episode 13 of the ova series.

The anime is a 12 episode series while their are 3 episodes that are contained on the Kujibiki Unbalance dvd’s. The manga was released in 9 volumes of 55 chapters. Both the anime and manga are great series to watch and read for those of you are interested in learning more about Otaku culture. Overall I give both the anime and manga a perfect score of 5 stars. If you are interested in learning more about Otaku culture or you want to find out what type of Otaku you are, defiantly do check this series out, you will not be disappointed. That will wrap up this edition of anime doubleshots, remember everyone that their is a ton of anime and manga out there you just got to know where to look.

Doubleshots Extra
